This may be old news for some, and I actually heard about this a few months back and then forgot about it for some reason, but just in case there are folks out there who haven’t heard yet, there is a new road course opening in Pontiac this spring: the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !

The project is being billed as a kind of automotive/motorsports theme park, with a track (obviously), and business space for automotive-related businesses and shops, plus restaurants and an area for events. I don’t know how much of that is lined up at this point, but I have driven past the location and was able to see a bunch of tire walls set up at the track.

If you’ve got cash to burn, you can buy a “car condo” with garage space starting at $115,000 for a 500 square foot unit, on up to almost half a mil for a garage almost twice as big as my house. It would be pretty cool to be able to keep a car right at the track, and have a place to hang out with your gearhead friends. But alas, I don’t have it in the budget for another mortgage just to store a car or two.

There’s no hard date set for opening, but it’s slated to open this spring, so it should be within the next few months. I am planning on heading out to visit the grand opening if I’m able, hopefully I’ll see some of you there.

They have a good presence at local car events, and I’ve asked a few times if they’ll be offering memberships for track use. If the condos were zoned for residential use, we’d probably just buy one and live there (we’re driving a realtor crazy with our requirement for large garage plus pole barn and zero fucks given about school districts), but unfortunately not.

Yeah, that’s one thing I’m somewhat concerned about. I assume that the track will be open for public use at least from time to time, but if you have to buy one of the condos to use the track, well, then I guess I’ll have to start saving.

Also, my wife and I are going to be house shopping again in a year or so, and your requirements sound a lot like ours. Well, OK, they sound a lot like mine.

Not sure where you’re looking to buy, but there are a good amount decent options around Oakland county for multiple garages, I’m guessing because we have lots of auto industry folks. And in fairness to your wife, I have also discovered that my other requirement is NO DANG WALLPAPER.

When I first heard about this a few years ago I thought yeah right that’s never gonna work. Well what ya do ya know looks like there gonna pull it off. Still a little skeptical about the track but looks good so far.

That sounds like my house-search criteria too! I literally told me realtor that I’m looking for a nice garage with a house and some land to build another garage later.

I haven’t been out that way in a while, but ISTR that’s one of the arm-pittier parts of Pontiac. I was driving up Franklin Rd. and for a moment I thought I had teleported into Detroit.

Honestly I think this’d also be a good use of the Silverdome property.

Yeah, it’s not exactly a great area, but it’s a good spot for a track. I’ll bet the land was crazy cheap.

i was at an open house last year after walking around for 20 minutes, I ask if the garage is open, “sure”. I walk out pull out a tape measure and start jotting down dimensions, ceiling height available for a lift. the real estate agent comes out to see what I’m up to “your’re the first I’ve ever seen doing this.”

The site was a former GM test facility they sold off during bankruptcy, so I’ll bet it was a good deal.

Meh. It’s not that bad now, and the best section of the Dream Cruise still runs by it.
